Difficult to see anything intelligent ATM on American tv about China so here's the BEV (Benji eye view).
A naval skirmish could ensue for a number of reasons. This could result in an American air craft carrier being sunk. Ultimately the Chinese Navy would fail due to paper-tigerdom (low morale, no experience, crybaby seamen, corruption, incompetence). A Navy blockade of the Malacca Straits would stop oil flow to China, accelerating the demise of the economy there which is already teetering.
The CCP is offering bluster and cocksurity out of a somewhat uncertain sense of confidence. They're also in a difficult situation as economy in China is faltering. They might welcome war.
I'm pro war here. I'd definitely look at Defcon 5 and protecting satellite GPS and worry about hypersonic missiles if I was in Joint Chiefs.
A complete breakdown and reset of the Chinese economy could lead to major supply chain disruptions around the world accelerating socialism. Ultimately people will fight and die for computer chips. Any freedoms surrendered to the CCP from fear of fighting a war will be paid for with viruses and God knows what else.
I think China could be ready for democracy but the Chinese populace are also ready just to overthrow their own government anyway due to mortgage crisis and lockdowns. Curious to see how they could be organised there without strong hands amongst themselves (like the CCP and cops).
