This was my 7th sail, not counting like the catamaran fiddling on the Fiji holiday like ten years ago. Whiffy remembered that Fijian catamaran but I'm not counting that although it did run purely on sails. The last Saturday I went the second time on the two Peters ya*cht (Peter do see - racing yacht), so that was my sixth sail and today my seventh sail. Although only my second sail on the Red Herring. Whiffy came along in her blue one piece swimming suit and a breezy long sleeved white shirt to protect her from the sun (on my advice).
This was whiffy's (wifey's) first ever journey or even boarding on the Red Herring.
We passed some american guy with a resplendent 'z' denoting his beautiful yacht's name. From Pennsylvania apparently, the American guy, not his yacht I'm guessing. It was a glorious day I can tell you, beautiful winds. The kids were all in school (the same school as the youngest had just began kindergarten there with the other two) . Sunny skies. Whiffy and I could finally enjoy some time together instead of just coexisting like Palestine and Israel or northern Ireland and the republic. Wunderbarg homies. I almost got killed by my own goddam boom, a freak gust brought it flying across out of nowhere and almost smashed my head in. My wife (whiffy) asked what that was and was amazed by the answer: a tack. Although technically it could have been a jibe (wind coming from rear not front). That's what happens when you unclip the boom on the Red Herring, the boom can be deadly. Beautiful guitar music on the boat. What a great day. Excellent.
* As I received a phone call where the asterisk was placed, a local area guy nearby where my boat is moored, I think German, originally, called me to report what was on the four hundred yard (approximately) roll of film I left with him. I'd say my father left it around the household since the 1980s. Utz called to report what was actually on it (I had no idea, apart from most likely my father had filmed it with his Minolta camera). Utz says he watched the film plus got the sound to work (he has a part time business transferring film to video which is how I found him as it's advertised outside his house). He said there's some Stanley Kubrick 2001 on it, the part with the sun. Gypsy Kings music, Spanish spoken language and possibly footage from Spain, so I'm guessing maybe my uncle the psychiatrist in northern Spain, made it. I don't know but Utz is a lovely guy and seems interested in the thing and not just blindly grasping for money so he said I'm welcome to pop in and watch it on his equipment. I guess maybe I'll just bring my son since he carries the family name. Also I don't want to just lob up to Utz's place with three noisy kids. I'm not proud of my family name neither ashamed. It's like the seventh most common surname in Spanish. Extremely common. I thought since we live in Australia I might change it to Dean, but now the kids are used to being Alvarezes, too late to become Deans. And the girls will likely change their names if they marry anyway so whatever. It'll be interesting to see my fathers film one of these days. Will keep you posted. Utz says it looks like a hippy thing and from his era (the 1980s).
