actually, it seems like Russia won't defeat Isis anytime soon. The Saudis are now interested to arm non Isis, anti-assad forces, that the Russians have been bombing, with anti-aircraft technology. The Americans aren't interested in this as eventually Isis could win such technology then shoot down one of their aircraft. Fighter jets are super expensive. 30 million citizens of Russia or America need to each contribute $1 (price of cheapest burger at McDonalds) in order to buy just one jet, so nobody wants to see one of his own shot down. But the Saudis will be happy for some Syrians to shoot down Russian jets. The Saudis don't like certain Yemenis (they bomb them, even though they are people of the book!), they don't like Assad at all and have actually poured tens of millions of dollars, maybe more than a hundred million dollars worth of sophisticated weaponry to his enemies, much of which falls into the hands of Isis same as primo American tanks, etc, won from the Iraqi govt. Sometimes the enemies of Isis are in such a hurry to get away from them, especially in Iraq, they just abandon their expensive American tanks and run! Will Saudi Arabia experience guilt if the weapons they supply Syrian rebels that are considered enemies by Isis AND assad's regime bring down a Russian jet! No! They won't care! The Russians had their choice of 30 million cheap burgers or a fighter jet and the babushkas went hungry! The Saudis won't care about that! They have so much money, $100 million to arm assads enemies is pocket change for them. With all this complicated warring, Assad bombing his people for years with barrel bombs, isil growing and extending. Al-qaeda in Syria and other rebel groups, nobody has had a chance to annihilate Israel from the map! We were waiting for Iran to get a nuke and then go ahead and do it once and for all but doesn't look like happening any time soon.
what will happen once Russia gets over its giddy honeymoon period of military practice time, checking all their weapons work fine, etc. Can they succeed at propping assad without invading Saudi Arabia? Possibly only by creating an Assad safe zone. But it will be extremely difficult or impossible for them to win new land from the Syrian rebels. Same for isil, due to lack of ground forces.
on the other hand, if the Russians were to INVADE Saudi Arabia.... Well maybe that's too much for them, but they should at least understand what they're up against in Syria. Having a pretty foreign policy spokesperson only goes so far, you know! Maybe try some diplomacy or something.
some time later: Putin and co meet with their Saudi counterparts in Russia...

Lavrov is saying there needs to be dialog amongst the parties in Syria but actually, the only foreseeable dialog for now will be done with bullets and bombs, everyone's blood is right up and the local Arab fighting men are all resigned to death in battle, there won't be huggin' and talking anytime soon Mr. LAVROV sir.
