STOP! Homework time!

Ok it was a rolling joke with everyone all weekend, my obsession with safety and danger. As someone who has almost killed himself twice by mistake on a 650cc motorbike in the brief 19 month period I had it, I understand one mistake can quickly end a life (or worse!) or cause a permanent injury. Also I knew a motorbike rider in this period that actually suicided leaving his beautiful wife and three little kids behind, because he wasn't satisfied with his accident recovery apparently.
On a boat, I know from this weekend's lesson plus talking on the phone some days ago to a young 18 year old, fresh out of high school insurance company rep. I had her actually read the fine print and I realised losing fingers on a sailboat when actually sailing it is a real possibility. I'm not going to mess around making mistakes pointing my fingers the wrong way. Like I said, I know from two bad maneuvers on my motorbike plus that guy I mentioned, how quickly it can all end. People like my classmates can laugh all day at my apparent morbid obsession with safety and danger however I'm watching them point their fingers the wrong way towards the winches and I can tell you, it's all mathematical after that, to the actuaries, who loses a finger choosing/omitting or subconsciously doing the wrong thing.
To put it another way: I'm happy to be the turtle that the hare laughs at, so long as I win and safely. Speaking of laughing, there's a homonym in sailing, I suppose it's spelt laffing, and it refers to the flapping of the sail when it's not catching the wind right. So in a sense, it is a laffing matter. I'm willing to die by unplanned error on my yacht in an ocean, but not accidentally kill my kids, so I'm taking safety very seriously.
In terms of risk I'd consider this the Marcellus/ Z Ratio: you want to take chances and also have recourse to a solution if an undesired event or outcome occurs, consider:

I actually spent the weekend on a similar Beneteau yacht to this one that lost its keel, capsized and killed everyone on board:
