Will I want to kiss that 40 foot yacht all over til the night closes in?

 Relationship problems anyone?

Yo, it's around 833am local time and I'm perched on the second floor at the front of the big yellow bus (some of) my colleagues drive (I don't drive them, not sure I'd want to). The view from up here is actually pretty amazing. I might try posting a picture later.

So the first of three weekends sailing courses begins in around 90 minutes. It runs from 10am to 5pm and then, apparently, I can just sleep on the boat overnight.

Apparently after three weekends of training like this I'll achieve 'competent crew' certification which I can use to volunteer at yacht clubs on social sailing days. So this will be my main hobby going forward (sailing). Ideally I'd like to be able to sail to the United States one day on my own boat. Apparently there's a sailing circuit there from the great lakes to the gulf of Mexico I'd like to explore.

Not sure what my relationship with maritime/government services there would be, considering I don't like applying for visas. However if I can sail there and elsewhere without getting killed by Chinese fishing boat fleets that'd be good. Anyway not clear I'll have what it takes. We'll see.

Hmmm, interesting. Just passed a store in Manly Vale called Gilmour's comfort shoes. Was going to mention my footwear but didn't. A pair of green Nike running shoes purchased with proceeds from my brother's estate. I don't usually use them for anything and they've just been sitting around for years but I daresay they'd probably be perfect for clambering around on a heaving, bobbing deck. I wonder how much I can use them without socks without them stinking up.

Ok the big yellow bus has stopped right next to the yacht club, middle harbor yacht club, however I can't get out til spit junction a few minutes drive up the road. Then I can walk downhill all the way back or just catch a 144 bus part or all of the way. Those routes, 144, I rode many times in my previous incarnation as a Willoughby bus driver. Those days seem far gone now although it's only been 7 months.

Ok end of day 1915 hours. Wow. My first day of sailing and I can see everyone has their unique sailing style, kind of like ice skaters like Mr Gilmore and all the other ice skaters out there..... Example:

Sydney harbour is great from the water. Gorgeous. I also absolutely love Middle Harbor yacht club. I think I could be happy just working there for a year or so or just hanging out there in my free time. I think I'm going to start spending more time there apart from next two weekends. I'm on the class yacht right now kicking back and it's real sweet. I could easily see myself living on a yacht in future, something like this one which is around 75k american. This kind of yacht can get you right around the world although truthfully I don't need such a big yacht to live on. I'd be happy just sailing the south Pacific anyway. All the islands. Fiji. New Zealand. I want to do it. It's the gateway to paradise!

Well I've mentioned my brother Joseph Stalin (my nickname for him) a few times on this blog. With this guy there's some definite traits that explains why I refer to him with that nickname:

1) avoids bourgois situations like they're kryptonite on superman. Can never be found in a burgois situation like on a classy yacht, or at a super swanky sailing club kicking it with the upper classes. No way Jose (his real name, which is Spanish for Joseph).

2) will provoke or arouse violence before getting into a burgois situation (think Judas saying perfume is too expensive). Example: our sister Raquel and I would go spend some time by Windsor castle in Eton kicking it at Raquel's boyfriend's place there. This is way too burgois for Jose(ph), he'd rather punch me in the face til I punch his tooth out (getting a tooth replacement is burgeois, he doesn't want to repeat that). Raquel gets him in a headlock in senior year high school (he repeated a year as dropped out in junior year) and slams his head through sheetrock wall in a fight over an iron (for ironing school uniform).

3) he will train you as a little kid to be a professional roller skater but will likely incorporate violence into that like punching you in the face. But will not do anything burgois related to roller skating.

Anyway burgois or not, this sailing isn't rocket science. Two sails: foresail and mainsail. Finger safety is a big deal. You can easily drown in certain sailing situations (like going overboard while tethered to the leeward side). Or lose fingers on the halyard winches. There's a whole habit to get into with that regarding not pointing any fingers towards grinding winching mechanisms.

Now watch the U.S. Navy's latest maritime arrangement, very cozy...
