film review: the proposition (1998)

features english actor, kenneth branagh as a catholic priest who relocates from england to boston

neil patrick harris ('openly' gay - therefore cannot be labelled insane due to unpolitical correctness of labelling homosexuality a mental illness which is passe although in the period this movie was set, 1935, it was)  plays roger martin, a young harvard grad. recruited to impregnate some sheila whose hubby is sterile - the sterile hubby is an adviser to president roosevelt (fdr) in 1935......

the sterile hubby is played by william hurt, who seems to be, from remembering some mad magazine satire read as a kid in the 1980s, and from the movie itself, one of the law-enforcement or else IRS guys from 'the untouchables' -- will check that now....

the priest narrates the movie, but his function, apart from that, remains unclear 25 minutes into the movie... it's all a bit pompous seeming coz it's a 'period piece' old cars and suchlike... turns out priest is not developing a relationship with the married couple.... it's all a bit boring -- very anglo too -- alot of the american actors turn on british accents a little in order to 'blend in' with the times....  turns out hurt wasn't in 'the untouchables'....... after all........

just saw harris doing his humping scene with hurt's wife in da movie..... it was laughable becoz branagh is doing a voiceover talking about roger's unrequieted love (roger is harris' character's name but it is also common english slang for copulation)

the whole movie play out like a chick-flick for women in their 70s --- kind of wish i was watching 'the untouchables' now as it seemed, from memory from the 1980s, as a very cool movie.... unfortunately, do not have unlimited i-net with which to stream it

had a little dramatic scene today, went to talk to the nsw police... ended up talking to a young female constable complaining about punk, thug 14 year old kids frequenting a brothel and being on very friendly terms with one of the whores there, Claudia....... that's illegal! sex with a minor.......... will most likely end up making a report to youth and community services about it..... i am not much of a do-gooder and turn a blind eye to a lot of crime..... prostitution here is legal anyway..... it's hard to differentiate right and wrong -- american filmmakers often make movies with real sex scenes featuring real sex in states where prostitution is illegal and then they are given awards for that! another great triumph of the anglo-aryan-white master race, right?

anyway..... these punk semitic kids should not be having sex with whores if they are only 14 years old, that's wrong.....

then the movie has the dumbest sound track --- same lame dopey classical music every time the female lead tongue kisses the catholic priest who ends up boinking her and getting her pregnant so that he can really be a 'Father'.......... whoever chose that music was probably given Zanax from age 3 (days) non-stop and until the moment they chose that shitty movie -- they try to give the female lead some kind of Gertrude like Shakespear-ian depth but she just comes across as another horny American bitch....... Hurt ends up having Dougie Houser M.D. killed becoz he's a threat to their new happy matrimony........... this movie was stupid, one star our of five

it's more garbage, i'm about to switch it off.... my baby spent 20 minutes at least screaming his brains out, most likely coz of some booster shot we got him today so he doesn't get polio, rubella and all kinds of shit like that like hooping cough, and as tormenting as it is for a father to hear his child scream like that, even that sounded better than the sounds 'Cannes Man' makes, which gives you an idea how deeply stupid this movie is.... meningitics..... one of my homeboys saw one of the famous actors in this movie cheating on his wife in Spain....... actors like talking about 'the truth' a lot and 'knowing themselves' but mostly the 'truth' is that the 'actors' are full of shit......... you should go a read Alfred Dodd's 'Personal Life Story of Francis Bacon' - at least then you could learn something about who wrote the Shake-speare plays (it was a team effort lead by Francis Bacon who was also the biological son of England's monarch at the time, Elizabeth the first.
