Goslings black seal Bermuda black rum

That's what I wanted to drink after feeling super cold on my first ever ocean sail. That was a moment ago out of Newcastle harbor out north to the floating yellow racing buoy off the coast of Stockton beach. Mostly abandoned sand dunes as Stockton is fairly out of the way.

Absolutely beautiful ocean and excellent company with the Novocastrians, on and off the water, they're always fairly impeccable as the French say.

This boat we raced on has amazing potential, it placed second in its class in the last Sydney to Hobart yacht race. It clearly had cots for four or five to sleep while others man the deck. I felt incredibly cold in the strong ocean winds, even though it was November, should be hot. But it wasn't. Very beautiful winds and ocean swell. The perfect first time. Newcastle is proving to be an interesting place for first times.

Well I ended up having an alcoholic cider which was cold. But I'm sure a warmer drink like brandy or rum would have felt better after such a momentous occasion. Anyway I'm hoping to make it an every Wednesday afternoon/evening thing for the time being. Thursday evening being acting lesson two hundred kilometers or whatever farther south the coast. Thinking to go to an AA meeting on Monday evenings as well. I did some AA in 2003 then again two years later in 2005 previously.

So in sailing there is a maneuver called goose winging. So if the wind is blowing from behind, you might have your mainsail over the port side way out extended and then just to catch all that wind from behind on the starboard side you could let out your jib on the starboard side way out to the side, creating the goose wing effect.

Anyway momentous occasion, first ocean sail. Like Pepe, I feel an immense joy, knowing our people's blood has not been shed in vain....

When I say 'our people' however I'm referring to people involved in Australia's coastline and maritime history like convicts on the first fleet eaten alive by rats. Not referring at all to Ukrainians and Russians like Pepe was. But I know how he felt.

Also, sit up straight and listen to May....
