Movie review, Sampson and Delilah (NITV channel); Meet the Parents (Gaylord Focker and friends)

Faith no more (they got the medallions)

https://youtu.be/i9_hCjcFNO0?si=qI4NMDk1JYdNc_EB

What's up? Bull was cancelled on TV. I returned Red Herring from Akuna Bay marina to her mooring at Avalon. There's a new boat there, Patricia, near my mooring. Looks kind of squishy over there. My red kayak had been on my mooring for two months, absolutely covered in sea muck. Growing, creeping muck. Also, as mentioned, I discovered the Country (AND) Western (both types) channel on the boat radio.

Before leaving Red Herring I left the Spanish deck of cards from my neck bag, back on Red Herring where I normally keep them.

So the Spanish deck has four suits: coins (like gold medals "oros"), swords (espadas), copas (cups) and bastos (kind of like wog bashers, big club like logs).

I'm seeing bastos in this movie, for bashing people, and copas, for sniffing petrol.

One thing I guess I enjoyed when I was 16 in Spain, was playing mus with Raquel, Alicia or Ana and Virginia. Three of my buddies in the small campus. I think those were their names. They were nice girls. They were surprised I could play mus. I was kind of depressed while I was there, especially before I even got there. I guess I suffered alot as a teen-ager.

Gee I like the aboriginal Mary and Jesus in the movie. They have that in India but it's Krishna as a baby and his mom.and they [sic] blue.

Was just wondering about knives but yeah, they have two haircuts with knives plus he cuts his bottle into una copa with his knife. Oh and he gutted the kangaroo, forgot about that. Espadas in the Spanish deck often just look like knives. Some people like cards with diamonds, some like knives.

The Spaniards are something else in high school. The senior kids draw naked models in art. They're allowed to drink small portions of alcohol in the school cafeteria. They all stand around smoking cigarettes (bad).

I think these are abbos with rock star hangover syndrome: AWRSHS. Clearly the female Elder feels that way as she just busted out her basto (wog basher).

This movie doesn't have gold coins but I suppose when I was in Spain in 1992 we still had $2 notes probably. They have self service prepaid petrol service at the Akuna Bay marina.

Yes she was a nice girl that Virginia, very like me in terms.of tall and long limbs. She had bleach blonde hair with black roots, long and straight but not perfectly straight. Not sure if she bleached it but I remember she jumped on my back outside class one day so she must have liked me. I liked her and Raquel and Alicia/Ana. Or maybe it was Alicia and Ana and there was no Raquel in our mus game, I can't remember. There certainly was at least one Raquel in our eleventh grade class, I'm sure. Aquel in Spanish means that thing over there, like that car, aquel carro. But you can just say ese. Ese carro.

Impenetrable fog on the Hawkesbury

Wow, I got like from Akuna Bay marina, the berthing there, up to just shy of Cottage Point and it's wall to wall impenetrable fog. Dropped the anchor and listening to country and western. Will read Markson's Wuhan book while the fog clears up. Didn't notice the overhanging gum tree on the marina channel so the mast and stays brushed into that a little, no big deal apparently. I definitely feel keen emotions on the boat: panic, deep concern, anxiety, elation, joy. Not sure if adrenaline and cold are feelings but my hands were really cold this morning. I must say it's an extremely comfortable thing boarding one's boat at marina berth. Chilling at the marina, if I was running a big corporation or something, I'd probably want offices at a marina and a permanent berth. Wouldn't need a bigger boat though. Anyway I'm not so that's all good.

Nautical points to consider:

Raising sail stabilises boat in ocean swell, raise sail where there's swell if need be even if wind is minimal.

Anchor chain is what stabilises, Red Herring only has five metres, get another fifteen or so....

Akuna Bay marina, Red Herring

 Red Herring national anthem:

https://youtu.be/ixqofv-Oi74?si=VVGWYU8kICSc56uw

Ok so yesterday around 11am my youngest child, Zara, 7; barely years old, and I, jumped into my utility vehicle (ute) and drove fifteen minutes or so to Bobbin Head. I enlisted some help from a young lady fishing there, to keep an eye on Zara while I kayaked out to the boat and brought it to shore. Some Chinese folks were around shrieking away in communist Chinese so I said my usual thing they would say to me (in Chinese): you speak Chinese very well! Chinese people say this to non Chinese people in surprised tones. Anyway I don't speak Chinese very well, it's just a subterfuge, kind of like Mr Wolf's blankets in the back seat of Jule's messy car. Anyway so I threw the bow line down to the Chinese guy after he told me in Chinese that I speak Chinese very well (I don't) and motioned for him to tie it down in the cleat. I daresay he didn't know how to do that but most people don't.

After making a coffee on the dreary interior's gimbal (it's not the Ritz in there), Zara and I set off for Akuna Bay, about 80 minutes cruising up the Cowan river which is a tributary of the Hawkesbury River.

Ok so this would be my first stay at a marina while berthing my own boat. Parking (berthing) was easy, I nailed it first attempt, like a pro. I had certainly been on the Newcastle, Sydney to Hobart racing yacht, Mr Sproggles (not its actual name), numerous times as it parked in its berth at Newcastle marina, plus I was a member there with an access key to the amenities for the best part of a year, so I'm somewhat familiar with the routine. Plus of course I'm a member at Avalon sailing club where my kids sail little kiddy sailboats.

So Zara's mother will collect her today and the plan is for me to proceed to Avalon via Broken Bay, it's basically like the Pacific Ocean right there until you're into Pittwater harbour enough for the water to calm down so I wouldn't even be able to attempt that if it ocean swell was more than like a metre. My boat is just not the right size for dealing with the ocean.

Anyway so as mentioned, I've got Sharri Markson's book, 'What really happened in Wuhan', in the boat all the time. I removed the Spanish deck of cards from the boat last night to play chinchon with Zara a little before removing from the marina's quarters to bunk down in the cramped Red Herring. I read chapter ten, Pompeo, before falling asleep. I slept fairly well however I have a slight suggestion of headache potential. Normally I would take one ibuprofen per month or six weeks on average for that. If it was a really bad headache maybe two ibuprofen which would shut it down. Generally I would say I overeat and now that it's winter time there's not much gardening happening so it's like having a holiday for a few weeks with a low work schedule although I'm still driving the bus all weekend.

John Howard and Malcolm Turnbull were on the tube last night in the marina's quarters however the messaging was muffled. Perhaps they were trying to disassociate themselves from the constant drumbeat that all men are wife beaters, it was unclear mumbling and all one could see was John Howard looks very old and Malcolm Turnbull is the guy that promoted gay marriage like a complete moron.

If the statistics stating a continual downturn in spousal violence and homicides are not to be believed, and one is to ignore the fact that the Australian media is in a death fight for survival due to dwindling advertising revenue, low talent and chronic Anglo Saxon nepotism, and audiences due to YouTube and other internet streaming. One might then assume that aforementioned Howard, Turnbull and Markson have been absolutely embroiled in sordid spousal violence of a non consensual nature. Furthermore, if our NSW government du jour, Labor or Liberal, is to be believed, the lovely Markson's husband should probably get Markson to sign off on a NSW government app every time Mr Markson leans in for a kiss, just to prove its consensual: romantic.

Of course, if Mr Howard's significant other has been slapping him around, we can only assume she'll get away with it, as the name of the game is female victimhood at all costs. It's a form of mental illness along with gay marriage and transgender rights.

Alvarez anniversaries, checkout time:

London bombings 7/7/5, while kicking it in Queens, NYC.

RIP pops, 7/7/8, another Alvarez suicides.

Homeward bound, Benji leaves Spain after a seventeen months sojourn, 7/7/97

Anyway so behind that boob tube (tv) at the marina at Akuna Bay, you'll see the laundry room and in there they keep a giant ship steering wheel, about two metre diameter, with a commemorative plaque from April ten, 1981, the PM of the time, Malcolm Fraser, officially opened the marina. There's a lot of that in Australia, commemorative openings and plaques and official openings. Can't remember seeing anything like that in Spain. A married elderly couple from Tasmania, very masterful ocean mariners, were showing me and my daughter their boat and saying how they gave a ride to a Catalunyan muchacha from Hobart to Sydney on their way to Akuna bay. Apparently she never sailed before. She would have been in very good hands.

Anyways moments later, Zara and her mother left. I've finished washing and drying most of the boat linen, including, two pillows, my regular sleeping bag. Blankets. My towel. Sundry clothing. The marina includes free laundry machine use and coffee, sugar, etc.

$1 book sale.... Anzacs Betrayed, the 2nd D&E Platoon in Vietnam (Don Tate)

 No stairway, denied...

https://youtu.be/rJbbrmHX29E?si=PpqVs9cfriKvpkfQ

Looks interesting, it's a nice size book about seven by nine inches or so. Chunky. Not too thick. It's about an ad hoc 39 man Platoon in the Vietnam war that isn't recognised.

Circling back to that air Egypt office back in Cairo with my poster cannister. I saw an excellent documentary on Mohammed Atta, the Egyptian United Airlines hijacker from Flight 11, 9/11. I'll post that here, it's definitely worth watching.

Not sure if this was the exact one:

Dr Phil on ABC (USA) Nightline

 Music please...

https://youtu.be/-35W_FWCT9Q?si=l8YEgIKf4ATkYHk-

So Dr Phil was on this morning, it's the first day of the two weeks winter holidays. The oldest two kids should be going to five day camp (overnight stays) tomorrow however the middle child says she's feeling crook (unwell). I hope she doesn't miss camp, not least because it cost like $240u.s.

Ok I've always had a positive opinion of Dr Phil and never found him unlikeable or obnoxious. This is really saying a lot as he's just a television construct from my perspective. But say when I was living in Hollywood/LA, one Hungarian lady I knew in her 20s was a regular at a lot of these shows like Dr Phil filmed at a big studio in Hollywood. I even went along with this Hungarian lady to the lot one day although I didn't want to see a show, I noted how one of the floor managers recognised her and knew her by name. It's worth mentioning I worked as a volunteer floor manager at a small community tv channel in Madrid.

Anyway so I was getting my haircut by some Iraqi yesterday, a $15 u.s. buzzcut, number two length all over. Suddenly I remembered the humorous time I was 21 years old and passing through Cairo. The layover was very long but technically not long enough to permit an airline provided hotel stay. So I thought I'd kick up a stink by slapping my Bart Simpson poster cannister (just a plain cardboard cannister for posters) against my palm, like a thug. It's quite humorous because if you know anything about these Muslim countries like Egypt, they are rock solid people who are not easily intimidated. I thought it was such a funny story I mentioned it to my American counterpart, Justice, later that day, over the phone.

However I never mentioned to Justice the Jerusalem security story I was also sharing with the Iraqi hairdresser.

Yes I got the hotel, yes posters are cool, yes I was transferring between college campuses, consider:

Anyway, the bottom line, I suppose, factoring in all of the aforementioned, is what Buddha said about the nexus of suffering and desire. Often abuse victims are suffering because of someone else's desires....

When the Buddha presented the Four Noble Truths, he identified cravin as the origin or cause of suffering. Called taṇhā in Pali and tṛ́ṣṇā in Sanskrit, the terms are typically translated as craving, but also refer to thirst, desire, longing, wish and greed. Although craving isn’t the only cause of suffering, it’s always listed first and considered to be the principal, all-pervading, most palpable and immediate cause.

The term suffering – referred to as dukkha in Pali and duhkha in Sanskrit – cannot be fully expressed with a single English word either, and pain, anxiety, stress, distress, discomfort, frustration and “unsatisfactoriness” are also used to describe it. According to Buddhist sutras (scriptures), there are three root sufferings:

Dukkha-dukkha: The suffering of suffering – including the pain of birth, old age, sickness and death.

Viparinama-dukkha: The suffering of change – as everything in this world is impermanent and won’t last.

Sankhara-dukkha: All-pervasive suffering – an underlying sense of insecurity, anxiety or basic dissatisfaction.

The Buddha also identified three types of taṇhā (craving), which in turn are related to what are called the three poisons (Sanskrit: triviṣa) – ignorance (Sanskrit: avidyā), attachment (Sanskrit: raga), and aversion (Sanskrit: dvesha). The types of craving are:

Kama-taṇhā: Craving for pleasure – the desire for sense-pleasures, wealth and enjoyment. The basis is ignorance as to the Four Noble Truths and impermanence.

Bhava-taṇhā: Craving for existence – an ego driven desire for becoming, continued survival, identity, importance, and so on. The basis is attachment.

Vibhava-taṇhā: Craving for non-existence – the desire not to experience unpleasant conditions, situations or people. The basis is aversion.

The path to liberation from Samsara (the endless cycle of life, death and rebirth) and its suffering involves extinguishing deluded craving and the “fires” of attachment and aversion. Cultivating equanimity can pave the way, whereby we accept pleasant and painful experiences equally, and abandon striving to gratify and reaffirm our ego.

Dharma Master Cheng Yen sheds light on how craving plays out in our lives, and points to contentment and gratitude as a means to break its vicious, damaging grip:

I often say that life is like a play and this play revolves around one theme – want and desire. Our desires are like a bottomless pit. We’re always seeking, never satisfied. This plays out in all aspects of our life. When eating, we don’t just eat to sustain our bodies and appease hunger; we crave good-tasting food. For our home, it isn’t enough to have a modest place that shelters us from the elements; we desire comfortable surroundings, the bigger and more luxurious the better.

All our life, we work hard to fulfill our desires. One dream fulfilled spawns another. We seek happiness, but for most of us, we think happiness comes with having more. Instead of being content with an ordinary, simple life, our vanity causes us to want more wealth, success, glory, power, and so on. Our ambitions are endless. But the truth is, more isn’t necessarily better and it can have adverse effects. In our endless pursuit of our desires, we actually create much suffering for ourselves.

The Buddhist sutras tell us that people with many desires suffer greatly because they’re constantly seeking self-benefit and gain. When we give rise to desire, we act in order to seek things. When we can’t get what we want, afflictions arise and we suffer. We might get into arguments with people over what we want. We might tire ourselves out scheming to get what we want. Our efforts to fulfill our desires bring us much affliction. Those with few desires don’t suffer like this.

If we want to get rid of our afflictions, we have to know their source – our desires. We can then get rid of them by being content. Contentment leads to spiritual riches and a sense of satisfaction and happiness with what we already have. With fewer desires, we can sleep soundly at night without worries. Our heart can be at peace. After all, what do we really come into the world for? What is life really about? Only by turning toward the Dharma can we begin to understand life’s true value and purpose. We can get perspective and see things in their positive light. A sense of gratitude will fill our hearts, and we’ll know how to make use of our lives in the most meaningful way, by contributing to the greater good.

Master Cheng Yen also asks us to reflect on how our behavior, focused on selfish desires and the endless pursuit of pleasure, is having a cumulative and harmful impact.

It all started with us human beings being self-centered and selfish. We want things to be under our control and our material desires are endless. That’s why today’s society is so focused on the pursuit of economic wealth, with manufacturing and businesses continually expanding. In this process, our land and natural environment are exploited and destroyed.

What also gets destroyed is our conscience – our moral principles and our humanity. Society too gets destroyed. With everyone pursuing self-gain, a huge disparity between rich and poor results, leading to great inequality, tension and struggle. All this came about because our heart and mind fell away from what is true and right.

We need to stop blindly going about our lives and look at the bigger picture of what’s occurring on our planet. We need to become introspective and take good care of our minds while taking true Dharma to heart and practicing it in every aspect of our lives.

Dream about Texas.... 9/11 Justice

The 9/11 Justice families are at the podium again...

https://youtu.be/p3sBBIjSAEE?si=ue1w6MpWBDQyrsFq

So I called in to Katy Houston or wherever Texas last night (Independence Day) to talk to Chris Salcedo but no-one answered the phone. I listened to Chris for a while and fell asleep and dreamt I was in Texas. It's the only time I can remember dreaming such a thing however I see my subconscious mind used a section of shopping mall from my hometown, itself a kind of troubled British Commonwealth version of Texas. This section of mall my subconscious placed in actual Texas was pre-existent a massive refurbishing and extension of this mall so that even my very first earliest memories were in this actual section of the mall which existed before the massive extensions. In fact this mall chain that's so big in Australia that did the extension, even exist in Los Angeles! Westfield's. You will see them all over Australia and even some places in Los Angeles. Pretty sure my Hollywood counterpart Macristol was chatting away with me one day when I realised Los Angeles has a Westfield's.

Anyway in my dream it wasn't a Westfield's but a shopping mall in Texas. Just as in my childhood, when Grace Brothers department store was the biggest section of that mall before Westfield's took over.

Anyway these Texans in my dream had an interesting Texan expression, "don't water your plates." I'm not even sure what that means but before I woke up some dishwasher inside the shopping centre was walking through the dishwashing post, something like that.
