Lee Shore

'sup, went sailing on Red Herring.... 16 knot winds. This time I was well aware of the forecast and even chose these conditions, wishing to actually sail, not just motor. It had been a long time since I'd raised sail on Red Herring.

With the main up I breezed swiftly in the southerly winds heading southwest to Scotland island's lee shore from Avalon. Then a Ben goofy move, I kept trying to raise the main higher with one reefing line near the cunningham still in place, ripping the main near the top with the pressure and the wind. It was an old sail and now I'll have to try to get her fixed.

Obviously in the lee shore of a small island you get a respite from the wind. I dropped the main after photographing the damage and raised for foresail and sailed back, motoring out of the lee shore area first. A pleasure to sail. Listened to Central Coast country music channel. It's beautiful this time of year on Pittwater harbour.
