Yesterday I was surprised to get a text message from a former bus driving colleague, he'd been listening to a John Laws radio program (a daily event) when my voice popped out of his radio so he promptly messaged me. I was just talking to John about Kyle and Jacky O.
While I'm not a big fan of any of the aforementioned three local radio personalities, I can admit that in all likelihood, they are not the kind to go around stabbing folks to death on murderous rampages, unlike this guy (see link below to Australia's "a current affair" tv show....
Having said that, Kyle is said to keep company with some kind of criminal guy known for being a major drug dealer or whatever. The main leader guy of Australia (Albanese, 'prime' minister) was even criticized for attending Kyle's wedding due to Kyle's murky underworld connection Ibrahim. Basically Australians are bon vivants with a penchant and affection for criminality hard woven into the society from the penal colony era. I'd like to discuss two important media institutions, a Current Affair (aforementioned) and the newspaper the Daily Telegraph and their position regarding serious criminality.
Generally I would give a Current Affair a thumbs up and the Daily Telegraph a thumbs down. The Daily Telegraph has a notable tendency to sensationalize crime and paint men as wife beaters and women are poor thong bikini wearing innocent hillbillies, in touch with their emotions in ways men could never be. The Daily Telegraph has a modus operandi and this is it. On the other hand, as matriarchal as a Current Affair might be with all their generations of suspicion and scepticism of southern Europeans as "swarthy wogballs"; untrustworthy. Notwithstanding, a Current Affair pretty much just reports on various scumbags and ratbags in a steadfast and determined way. Every day at 630pm you can see a Current Affair zeroing in on lowlife nobodies for cheating people out of life savings etc. It's not always about hillbilly knuckle dragging women trying to be sophisticated and being victimised by evil violent husbands intent on bashing them daily. Both publications have a wide scope for extreme 'celebrity' narcissism with their love affairs and cocaine parties whatever, this is considered glamorous to many young starry eyed female journalists who are struggling with overwhelming feelings of closet lesbianism no doubt.
It generally presents a picture of toxic personalities. While Australia is not mature enough to have acceptance for sensible and mature satire in the manner of the French, self reflecting on their society, nevertheless many stalwart Australians, often strongly identifying with Britain as a holistic triumvirate royal institution, see toxic politicians and the like for how they actually are. Perhaps some journalists feel trapped by the hillbilly knuckle dragging thong bikini wearing innocent woman as sophisticated thong bikini wearing victim of biffo the wife bashing boyfriend/dad stereotype conundrum the starry eyed closet lesbian journalists in their 20s are preaching but it doesn't really show. The net result is that while having a natural tendency towards conservatism, security, wealth accrual as a must have, Australia is now dominated by left wing governments everywhere except Tasmania. To the delight of the lesbian momma bear college professors with their long pants and sports bras. And their non existent boyfriends.
