The doctor said I had it in mid July too but barely vaguely remember, actually.

No sick days left at work and happy not to get paid but hopefully won't get fired. Have doctor's certificate til end of Tuesday.

Met the mother of boy across the road my kids play with. The father lives across the road and the mom is nearby but living separated from the father.

Work sucked. Drove 4 hours slept like 3, drove four more... Only happy driving 7 hours or less and not on a broken shift but preferably a straight eight or nine hours as is usual. Having this weekend and next weekend off. Psyche ward hospital people bringing my mom home Wednesday. Will try to avoid her, probably easier to deal with u.s. army psych ops than her facial grimaces. Got stuck with a '12 hour spread' today. And tomorrow. Instead of starting around midday and working consecutive hours with a fifty minute unpaid break, there's a giant five hour gap (or four tomorrow) in middle of the day.

Due insomnia last night, slept from 930am to just after 1pm. After morning bus run. Woke up in time for Union meeting about privatization announcement. Told Union bosses I want to get involved. The Transport Minister Mr Constance has been wasting way too much money on a buses on demand service that is being subsidized by the taxpayer $500+ each ticket sold. Total waste of money. I would actually support cancelling some services that are unused. Unfortunately I think the Union is so left wing they're going to struggle to get results. I actually liked the news grab I saw of Constance's driverless mini bus trial at Olympic park. The NSW government has failed monumentally at safeguarding the building industry anyway and corruption is out of control. That's how dodgy builders can triumph. The local media are acting very hysterically because the Australian FBI raided some journalists house weeks ago. Maybe they should go live with Snowden in Putin's Russia????


At home. Would have liked to get home earlier but wiffy was harassing me about the unusually early start so ended up watching Heather on fox and friends 4am edition which was actually 7pm here. Still haven't sent CV in to fox news or Fox Business network but sorted out my University transcript and ID so just looking

As an aside to my first year journalism studies at the Complutense University in Madrid Spain, I worked as the floor manager for a small magazine-style TV show featuring a number of experienced and semi experienced journalists and tv/radio production workers. The studio was quite cramped so we only had one vision mixer in a small space immediately behind me with possibly one apprentice or assistant beside him or her. Around two cameras and two stages. Our show, 'Road to nowhere', featured current affairs, talk on motorbikes, gossip, etc. I especially remember it for the telephone that never rang once despite requesting calls. Everyone seemed to have a blast and students could develop skills there and unemployed journalists could feel like they were in the loop. Nobody spoke English. The studio also featured a radio room for on air talking.

1998, Foxtel TV Studio Darling Harbor (Fox affiliate), Sydney Australia. Two week unpaid winter internship with the John Laws TV show (something like an Australian version of Bill O'Reilly). The executive producer (formerly of 60 Minutes Australia) complemented me on my high standard of writing for research I produced on popular American Jesse Jackson. My primary role was as a researcher and to assist the production team with their research needs. This involved internet searches and microfishe newspaper searches at the NSW State Library as past newspapers were not commonly digitized in those days. While not liasing with anyone in the vision mixing area, I did talk with the vision mixer on one occasion and got a feel for the planning weeks in advance (often just two) that production relies on for guest booking and research. I undertook this internship in conjunction with my continued studies in journalism and media at the University of Technology, Sydney.

In between Spain and England we have France.
