Because Spain, like all European nations, has surrendered sovereignty to the European union. If Spain wants to leave the EU, like England, they would do well without it. However Spain is uninterested in reforming her education system, which should be her first priority along with eliminating the Catholic church from the constitution. Spain can barely be spoken of as a nation of serious people anymore probably just unlucky ones. Spain's economy has become a joke thanks to her shitty education system and socialist economics that stifles risk and growth. Nobody in Spain can even get a business loan or a home loan. The best thing Spain can do is leave the EU and negotiate treaties with the EU for trade, etc. And lose the EU currency. Spain has little hope of reforming her education system as she is hopelessly hobbled by catholic tradition. At least she could provide real language curriculum and real technical skills in schooling. Spains students study hopelessly archaic, useless and verbose matters that bore them. Cheating is prevalent and many students pass classes without learning material by cheating during exams. Spaniards can't even speak English or German. Failed State. Let the catalunyans go their own way.
