Zika virus mutation in northern Brazil, circa 2016

https://youtu.be/Gy7Gld1TqIU

Although already existent well beforehand when zika virus broke out in 2015 in northeastern Brazil, it turned out to be a mutation causing babies with large parts of their brains non existent and smaller than usual heads. The Brazilian government successfully staved off the pandemic by aggressively fighting the reproductive cycles of mosquitoes, drafting in the Brazilian military. This resulted  in possibly under five thousand total cases and the pandemic mostly over.

Of these approximately three thousand or so zika kids, now around three to five years old, it's amazing to see how the mostly poor and single mothers have bonded together and enriched their own and kids' lives. This is actually a very inspirational pandemic believe it or not.
